- Benzyloxyphenol (monobenzone) is a topical depigmenting agent that can decompose melanin (melamin) in the skin, prevent the production of melanin in the skin, and restore the healthy color of the skin without destroying melanocytes, thus causing to the decolorizing effect. Clinically, it is mainly used to treat hyperpigmentation, such as various stains, age spots, vitiligo, melanoma, etc. Monobenzone is milky white to light gray-brown crystal or crystalline powder, slightly soluble in water, and highly soluble in ethanol, benzene, and ether. ; Soluble in acetone and alkali, actually insoluble in petroleum ether and hydrocarbons, mainly derived from melanin extracted from plants such as Silverside Cui, Shui Jing Cao, Perez, Green Peak Gum, Acorus, Baiziren, and Turmeric.
